Mr. Heumann will provide an update on a mechanical product that many of us haven’t looked at since undergraduate school even given the benefits they provide. However, Mr. Heumann intends to remind us when not to use a cyclone. His presentation discuses different styles of cyclonic devices, basic nomenclature and flow patterns for reverse flow cyclone, a detailed discussion of how cyclones work, basic measures of cyclone performance (pressure drop and the fractional efficiency curve), total collection efficiency as well as operations and installation problems. Bill Heumann’s career has centered on developing custom-engineered gas separation solutions for industrial customers, addressing issues such as process optimization, pollution control, ventilation, dust collection and product recovery. During his career, Bill has developed or co-developed proprietary technologies utilizing cyclones and fluidized bed systems, and has been awarded numerous patents. He has published several scientific technical papers on industrial air pollution controls and systems. Most recently he co-wrote “Harnessing the Power of Cyclones,” the May 2011 cover story for Chemical Engineering magazine. He is the author of the Industrial Air Pollution Control Systems engineering textbook. A cum laude graduate of the Florida Institute of Technology (Melbourne) with a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography, Bill undertook post-graduate business administration work at Bellarmine University, and engineering at the University of Louisville’s Speed Scientific School. In order to provide sufficient parking passes and provide sufficient light refreshments, please RSVP as noted above. Members may arrive as early as 5:15 pm
